There are only a few sailing boats in the Whitsunday Islands that have the combination of onboard Scuba Diving as well as a 2 day 2 night itinerary.
Maxi Racing Yacht Spank Me offers you a true Whitsundays sailing experience. It was originally built by Alan Bond in Freemantle and won line honours in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race in 1989 - 1990 despite some of the most grueling conditions of any Sydney to Hobart race.
Spank Me was purchased by a New York real estate tycoon who changed the name to Congere and went overseas for ten years of competition. Congere was donated to the Naval Academy Sailing Foundation and served as a sailing training vessel for young American sailors.
Purchased by the Spank Me Racing Corp in 2001 she continued her racing career as Spank Me BT and was placed 3rd in her last professional race which was the Bermuda race in Newport in 2002.
In 2004 Spank Me commenced overnight sailing trips in the Whitsunday Islands and now provides a Whitsundays Maxi Racing yacht experience for young travelers and the young at heart taking in the fabulous sights of the Whitsunday Islands .
Spank Me offers you a hands on sailing experience but it is not compulsory that you join in. You can just chill out and watch as this fast, sleek Maxi Racer slides you through the pristine waters of the Whitsundays speeding you to remote locations and beaches of pure white silica sand like Whitehaven Beach.
Whitehaven Beach is on the intinerary for every trip. You will get to snorkel or scuba dive fabulous fringing reefs found in the Whitsunday Islands and meet the sealife that lives there.
Spank Me carries her own scuba tanks and you can do introductory or certified scuba diving. If you don't want to dive you are supplied with snorkel gear inclusive in the price and you can make friends with some of the friendly marine life living in locations you will visit.
Spank Me is a racing yacht so there are no private cabins. Multi share berths are in open plan around the boat giving you a very good idea how sailors live while competing on ocean going racing yachts.
Your meals are provided inclusive of the price of the trip and are prepared fresh from local produce. You can bring your own alcohol as this is a BYO vessel but no glass please.
Spank Me is a large racing vessel and takes a maximum of 26 passengers who are looked after by 4 crew members on each trip. A divemaster is onboard every trip.
During the months of July, August and September you will possibly see the mighty Australian Humpback Whales as their annual migration brings thousands of them into the Whitsundays as they seek warmer waters to bear their calves.
Spank Me departs every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday for a 2 day 2 night sailing trip from Able Point Marina close to the town of Airlie Beach. Passengers must check in at the office in Airlie Beach and do not go directly to the boat until they have checked in.
You are asked to bring only what you need for a 2 day 2 night sailing trip. You are able to store luggage at your accommodation in Airlie beach and there are other secure locker facilities in town if you need them.
Linen is provided onboard and you are asked not to bring sleeping bags or bags with zippers onboard.
Alcohol should be in cans or cardboard containers only. No glass is permitted for obvious safety reasons.
